Family Football Night February 5, 2009

Yes, in honor of the Superbowl on Sat. we had Football Family Night.  We ate tequila lime chicken wings (from Sam’s so easy and yummy), carrot souffle ( I will have to share the recipe soon, McCall says it tastes like vanilla ice cream) and corn on the cob.  They don’t really go with football except the wings, I know.

My little sister Maura was in town with her two little ones, precious Layla and Reilley, b/c her husband went to Pittsburgh to watch the Superbowl with all those other Steelers fanatics.  They had a victory party!

It was fun to do Family Night with extended family!  We had a Carvel football cake, yummo!  We were supposed to play tabletop football but we ran short on time and energy:)  However we did do a fun activity where we talked about Teamwork and the character values you need to be a good team player.  I cut out construction paper footballs and on one side I put words like Love, Kindness, Forgiveness, Compassion, Strong.  On the back of each was a Bible verse that went along with the character value.

We strung the footballs up across the play room and each boy took a turn trying to throw the football and hit one of the construction paper footballs.  When he hit one we would take it down, look up the verse and talk about the value.  They loved throwing the football (much more than the talking) and the game was a hit!

Wow- and no windows got broken in the process? Did Eli climb the wall and just take down his football? J/K
You are a great mom to do these “family nights” with your kids- the preparation, keeping dads and little ones involved, and still not losing your mind- I am impressed!!

What a great idea, I think I could tweak it for my teenagers!
