After a summer of family fun but not Family Nights I finally “have it together” enough to start back with some organization. I was feeling really overwhelmed and lacking in creativity as I tried to plan a lineup for fall Family Nights. Then I happened upon an awesome site from Northpoint Church that did the planning for me. Over the summer they put together 4 awesome Family Nights with some great components. They call it Operation Family Blueprint.
We are now going to do Family Nights twice a month instead of every week. With the combination of soccer, Upward football, home group and a date night thrown in her or there our nights are getting full:) All the more reason for planned family time though. I am so thankful to have the next two months planned out for me:) I highly recommend the Operation Family Blueprint Family Nights but also the entire site is great. Lots of great suggestions and downloads for teaching your kids the Word.
Here are some pics from our first Family Night “Fort Night”. It involved some great teaching moments, a fun storytelling exercise, encouraging sticky notes and fun fort building. You can download a blueprint for each night and they also have a video that teaches Parent Secrets.
The 2nd Family was a Family Celebration. We ate on our finest china and had a very formal meal with placecards and candles. The boys loved it:) We initiated our Celebrate You plate which we will now use anytime anyone has a reason to celebrate. We then took turns in the Sweet Seat while we ate our dessert. We all took turns telling the person in the Sweet Seat “I love you because…” “You bless me when…” or “I am thankful for this about you…”. It was such a sweet, sweet, uplifting time. What true celebration doesn’t deserve sparklers:) And then we ended our evening by watching the movie Prince Caspian.
I can hardly wait for our next Family Night. It does take quite a bit of work but the memories and teachable moments are so worth it:)
